Point of View in Literature
The point of view in a story is who is telling the story, or whose thoughts and feelings are shown. Sometimes, the narrator’s point of view is different from a character’s.
When you read, ask yourself who is telling the story.
Is it a character in the story? Stories told by a character in the story are told in first person.
Is it a narrator that is not part of the story? Stories told by someone who is not a character in the story are told in third person.
If you do not know who is telling the story, read the passage again and ask yourself whose thoughts and feelings are shown in the text.
