base + ball = baseball
Homophones and Sight Words

Homophones are words that sound the same, but have different spellings and different meanings.
rode / road
The man smiled happily as he rode his bike down the long, winding road.

The lazy knight preferred eating hot dogs and relaxing at night rather than standing guard.
A sightword is a word whose spelling should be memorized. It may be more difficult to sound out. It may not follow normal spelling patterns and rules. It may be a high-frequency word that appears often in writing.
